The Fiat 500 is a great little car. Very large, so much so that it has become a symbol of Italy in the world. The Fiat Nuova 500, to distinguish it from the first 500 of 1936 called "Topolino", was born from the pencil of Dante Giacosa and debuted at the height of the Italian economic boom. It is 1957, a period of strong industrial expansion, and the symbol of the economic miracle is the car, a true status symbol. From the launch of the New 500 to the following 10 years, the fleet in circulation in Italy increased from 1 to 5 million cars. The style of the 500 was appreciated right from its debut: in 1959 it was the first car in the world to be awarded the prestigious "Compasso d'Oro" award, which until then had been attributed to industrial products, especially furniture.
