It is November 14, 1493 when Christopher Columbus lands with his crew on the volcanic island of Guadalupe, in the Caribbean Sea, and discovers what at first glance by the Italian explorer appears to all intents and purposes to be a large pine cone: it is the second baptism of the fruit, which from that moment on was called "Piña", from which the English version of pineapple derived. The very sweet flavor of its pulp sealed its success, and attempts to transport the piña or pineapple overseas immediately began, to delight the palates of European royalty.
