The blue morpho (Morpho menelaus, (Linnaeus, 1758)) is a moth belonging to the Nymphalidae family, widespread in Central and South America. This species has iridescent metallic blue wings; females, unlike males, have a wide black terminal band, with white spots. Adult males have brighter colors. It has a wingspan of 15 cm. The larva feeds on plants during the night; it is brown-red in color with yellow-green or yellow spots. The larvae are also highly cannibalistic.
