the classic breakfast dessert much loved by Italians and the French, legend has it that it was invented in Vienna, on the occasion of the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in 1683. The Turkish army, to demolish the city walls, had planned to place at night of dynamite in the city's underground tunnels. It was the bakers, already awake and working at night, who noticed the strange movements of the Turks and raised the alarm. The emperor thus defeated the Turkish army and then commissioned the same bakers to create a dessert that commemorated the event and celebrated the victory, the "kipferl" (croissant), whose shape would recall the symbol of the crescent of the Ottoman flag .
