CUTLERY

The history of cutlery, understood as fundamental tools for the table, is not very ancient: for millennia man has eaten using only his hands, sitting on the ground and possibly using rudimentary wooden spoons to sip soupy dishes. Even today, in some parts of the Earth, this very simple convivial practice is commonly used. For most of human history we have always eaten, even during regular meals, using our hands and without worrying about dirtying clothes or tablecloths: we proceeded with fairly frequent hand washing, immersing them in special basins in which they were diluted in the water of perfumed essences. The very first utensils were spoon and knife, while for the fork it was necessary to wait many more centuries.
