The history of the fan has very remote origins, dating back to 500 BC. in India under the name Punkah. It was a completely manual system, it was the task of the servants (Punkawallah) to operate, so to speak, the large fan, pulling ropes (back and forth) which were connected to the very large leaves of a plant called Palmyra.

It was Omar-Rajeen Jumala in 1832 who built the first mechanical fan and it was used and practically tested in its operation in coal mines and in some factories. However, as regards the fan for domestic use it was necessary to wait until the last years of the 15th century and the early years of the twentieth when electricity began to be available on a large scale.
