MONARCH BUTTERFLY

The monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus Linnaeus, 1758), or simply monarch, is a pollinating Danainae butterfly of the Nymphalidae family, native to North America. For pre-Hispanic cultures they were sacred animals, they were identified with the spirit of the forest and the souls of the deceased. For the Maya, the spirits of the warriors returned through them. They are monarch butterflies, which arrive in Mexico every year in early November.
