ROSE

The rose that grows in multiple forms in gardens around the world today is an evolution of rose-like plants that lived in the Northern Hemisphere between 33 million and 23 million years ago. Their traces have been found in Oligocene fossils in Europe, Asia and western North America. Five-petalled flowers, with characteristic serrated oval leaves and colorful rose hips, characteristics that can still be found in some wild rose species today, differentiated them from the remains of other plants when examining the fossils.
