Starfish are present in all the seas of the world and the most striking ones are found in the tropical ones. The symmetry can be defined as pentamerous by observing the five arms, however it is a secondary pentamerous symmetry, because it derives from an original true bilateral symmetry, the original symmetry of all Echinoderms. Most starfish typically have five rays, or arms, branching out from a central disk.
