TULIP

Most tulip species come from the Netherlands, but the plant is native to Central Asia. The introduction of tulips to Holland took place in the 17th century thanks to the botanist Carolus Clusius, who planted the first bulbs in his gardens in Leiden. It is said that Carolus' neighbors stole some bulbs from his fields, and so tulips soon became popular, not only in Holland but throughout Europe.
