In 1953 the first color TV went on sale. The first color transmission experiments date back to the late 1940s, again in the United States, where what would be known as the NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) standard had been perfected. However, as early as 1939, a method had been adopted to allow future color TV programs to also be visible on black and white devices and vice versa. It is a technique based on the scanning of the fundamental color components - such as blue, green and red - and on its subsequent reproduction by means of phosphors or pixels.
