Since its inception, Sony's history has been deeply intertwined with the audio industry. In fact, the very name of the company is based on the concept of sound: the name "Sony" derives from the fusion of the Latin word "sonus" (from which the terms "sound" and "sonic" derive) and "sonny" (literally, "boy"), which denotes the youthful and dynamic side of the company.

Sony also embraces a spirit of innovation and has always taken a forward-looking approach to designing products for audiophiles and music lovers. Sony co-founder Masaru Ibuka himself honored this innovative philosophy by stating "Creativity comes from seeking the unexpected, looking beyond your own experience."
