WATERMELON

The watermelon belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family and comes from tropical Africa. According to some historical sources, the first recorded watermelon harvest even occurred in Ancient Egypt almost 5,000 years ago, and was documented in some hieroglyphics. According to Egyptian religion, the watermelon, born from the seed of the god Seth, deity of the desert and the dead, was often placed in the tombs of the pharaohs as a form of sustenance for the afterlife. The nobles offered it to visiting guests as a refreshment from fatigue and thirst.
